Andrea De Ocampo – Teen Fashion Designer and Performer

How many 15 year olds do you know whose career ambitions include: “1) have my own fashion empire; 2) become a doctor; and 3) work with children.” Oh, and whose talents also delve into the performing arts as Andrea has grown up singing “since I had vocal chords” and has shared her vocal stylings by performing for many audiences. To say the least, this young lady is not only multi-talented, she possesses strong family morals, strives to be a great friend, and loves “when the world goes round.” At 15, Andrea already displays a level of maturity that is not commonly found amongst other youth her age yet effortlessly maintains her youthful exuberance.

Andrea shared that her life has significantly changed  since placing second in Western Canada Fashion Week’s (WCFW) Emerging Designer Contest last September 2010. She credits that the many opportunities that have followed have been because Sandra Sing-Fernandez (Founder and Creative Director of WFCW), has created “this artsy fashion environment where people such as myself, who are passionate about fashion, can show off their work in these types of competitions.” Below are images of this young, entrepreneurial designer’s pieces at WCFW’s September 2010 Emerging Designer Contest.

“New and fresh is what I bring to the table,” is what the Fashion Designer had to say regarding where she draws her design inspirations from. Andrea added that this WCFW season is extra exciting for her as she is both showcasing a collection in the Emerging Designer Contest AND will be delighting Fashion Week attendees with a vocal performance on opening night, March 24, 2011.

Andrea also credits her strong ambition to fulfill her passionate pursuits in fashion, design, and the performing arts, to being raised “by loving parents who worked really hard for me and my siblings to live a life where we would be happy and to aspire to reach our dreams!” Andrea’s mission is to inspire other young women and men to do what they love to do no matter what their age and to follow their dreams. She further adds, “and like Justin Bieber said, “Never Say Never!” ”

Uhm, that dress looks like she got a random Victoria Secret bra. Cut it up. And attached it to the mid-section. uhm. awkwaaard.

This is the designer’s first creation that she sewed… without structured education in anything to do with this industry, in her entire life. So before you criticize, think about that… no body is perfect, especially for their first trial.

Despite what you think, I am sure many people see this creation as something creative, fun, and sexy like I do. Keep your comments to yourself. I bet you aren’t even as close to talented as she is.

I love how you did the details in the dress!

You are actually very talented in designing pieces like this and putting the fabrics that fit with the style,It would be really hard for me to design something as creative and comfortable as what you made. This is a true and creative piece, that was made by a really talented person!
